This wonderful group of 36 people from Holland wanted something other than your typical bike tour of Barcelona. Their visit was an incentive to celebrate 80 years of the existence of their company, which helps people find housing.

I have to admit that riding with the Dutch is always a pleasure. As anyone who knows them or has visited Holland can tell you, the Dutch are practically born on bikes. Bicycles are one of the most popular used forms of transportation in Holland, used by just about everyone, old and young.

Our morning bike tour took us through the streets of Barcelona’s oldest district, the Gothic Quarter, riding past Gothic churches and the remains of the Roman walls, before reaching the Mediterranean where we planned to take a short break with a cold drink and the splendid sunshine.

After soaking up some sun and watching the waves roll in, it was time to get back on the saddle and explore a little more of Barcelona. We headed down the boardwalk, passing some of the city’s beaches, before stopping for a panoramic view of the waterfront. From here it was time to head to our next stop, a 16th century palace, where we would enjoy fine Spanish wine with traditional "tapas" before ending our bike tour.

Our morning bike tour was over flat ground and was easy going; this would leave the group plenty of strength for their evening tapas tour.

Our walking tapas tour took us to several of the Gothic Quarter’s hidden corners where we sampled Catalan and Basque style tapas before ending our evening with a cup of hot coffee or tea.
